Inside-Out Blouse Project

Well, I can't seem to carve out enough time to do a real sewing project. There's always something going on at our house. While at JoAnn's Fabric store yesterday I picked up a book called Cut-Up Couture by Koko Yamase. In it she shows how you can turn your husband's oversize white tshirt and turn it into a ruffled top.

Here's the tshirt I started out with.

This is the result in the photo at the right. I think this was fun, but it is definitely a project for someone younger than me. It was really fun to do and took minutes to complete, but I feel like Bozo the clown! Dale's reaction didn't help either as he laughed so hard when he first saw me. Husbands are the worst critics.

Here's what it's supposed to look like on a younger body. It is also longer which I can't understand why as I used an extra large size and the blouse length came just under the bustline.

Shirt Instructions
The instructions for the shoulder pleat was a bit odd as it says to do 2 1/2" on one shoulder and 4/12" on the other. I just eyeballed it until I felt it was a good fit.

There are a lot of other fun projects in this book including several using sweatshirts which are perfect for the kind of weather we have here in Alaska. My next project from this book will be a "Sculptured Dress with Deep Collar" which is made from two black sweatshirts. It's a project that some of my nieces would have fun making. I'll probably wear it with leggings or skinny black jeans, but's another project for another blog.
